Betting tips for the fifth round of the group stage of the Champions League 2023/2024

Tonight is the fifth and penultimate round of the 2023/2024 UEFA Champions League group stage and the ruling of which teams will advance to the round of 16 begins in this round. Here we give you five possible bets for the matches in this round for tonight's and tomorrow's matches, as usual with a focus on getting slightly higher odds than the obvious favourite bets.

Shakhtar Donetsk - Royal Antwerp - Tuesday 18:30 CET

Shakhtar Donetsk has many years of experience in Champions League games and still has the chance to reach the playoffs, something that Royal Antwerp does not have after four straight losses. In the first meeting between the teams, at Royal Antwerp's home ground, ended with a 3-2 win for Shakhtar. Now this match is not played at Shakhtar's home ground because of the war in Ukraine, but instead at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg, so it is in reality not the home ground for any of these two teams. However, motivation and the fact that Shaktar are a slightly better team should tip the scales in their favour, and odds of around 2x the money is a good bet for a Shakhtar win.

AC Milan - Borussia Dortmund - Tuesday 21:00 CET

It is difficult to predict any matches in this "group of death", a group that apart from AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund also includes Newcastle and Paris Saint-Germain, and it is also very tight here. Borussia Dortmund is in top the group with 7 points but the distance all the way to the bottom team Newcastle is only three points.

The first meeting between Dortmund and Milan ended 0-0. Milan went goalless from the first three games but won the last UCL match at home against PSG with 2-1, and we think they will build on that win and take another win here at just over 2x the money from the betting companies.

Feyenoord - Atlético Madrid - Tuesday 21:00 CET

Atlético Madrid is in the lead in this group with 8 points and Feyenoord are third on 6 points, with Lazio in between on 7 points. So, in other words, both of these teams are still very much in in the race to progress to the play-offs.

Atlético Madrid won the first meeting between the teams at home with 3-2, after two goals from Álvaro Morata and one from Antoine Griezmann. Both of these strikers have played very good this season and we also believe that these two gentlemen will lead Atlético Madrid to a victory tonight again, even though Feyenoord for sure is a strong teams and they also have one of Europe's hottest strikers right now, the Mexican Santiago Giménez. However, around 2.75 times the money for an Atlético win feels like a reasonable bet.

Galatasaray - Manchester United - Wednesday 18:45 CET

Bayern Munich is leading this group by far after four straight wins, and are thus already group winners. Behind them though, it's very tight with FC Copenhagen in second place with 4 points, same points as Galatasaray, and Manchester United are last with 3 points.

Manchester United had a very good game this weekend when they won against Everton away with 3-0. Strengthened by that win, and the fact that they really showed themselves that they can play good football, probably strengthens the morale in the squad. This makes us believe in United in this match, and thus gives themselves a chance to progress to the play-offs. A win for Manchester United gives you around 2.5 times the money for a bet.

Real Madrid - Napoli - Wednesday 21:00 CET

The UEFA Champions League really is Real Madrid's tournament and they have shown that this season as well as they have lined up four straight wins, one win being a 3-2 win against Napoli away. Napoli is second in the group with 7 points, followed by Braga on 3 points and lastly Union Berlin, who are practically gone.

We believe quite strongly in a draw in this match and the reason is partly because these are two fairly even teams that play each other (even if Real Madrid of course is somewhat better fundamentally), but above all because it is a result that both teams would be very satisfied with. With a draw Real wins the group already in this round, and for Napoli they would only have to avoid losing at home to Braga in the last round to advance. And if Braga loses points against Union Berlin in this round, Napoli are already through. A draw in this match gives almost four times the money at the betting companies, which is a very good odds compared to its probability we think.
