Swiss Super League 2021/2022 starts tonight - who will be the top goal scorer?

The Swiss league starts the 2021/2022 season tonight and we take a guess who will be the top scorer in the league. And it's really just about two players.

The Swiss league was dominated for many years by Basel, a team that was not only superior in the league but also did well in Europe. Young Boys, on the other hand, had some lean years instead, but for the past four years it has been all about Young Boys. They have four straight league titles, won the league with 31(!) points ahead of Basel, and are of course favorites again for the title this year.

One of the big reasons why Young Boys has been so dominant is spelled Jean-Pierre Nsame. Since this Cameroonian came to Young Boys from Servette he has scored 69 league goals in four seasons, that is an average of just over 17 goals per season.

In the 2019/2020 season, he won the top scorer title in a rarely seen superior style, scoring 32 goals, 13 goals more than second placed Cédric Itten. Last season he won the title again, but then only by one goal before the second placed player.

And second in the best scorers list was Basel's 23-year-old Brasilian Arthur Cabral. Throughout last season (or at least the second half of the season), Nsame and Arthur Cabral were side by side as top scorers after each round. If Nsame scored, Arthur Cabral scored too, and vice versa.

Another interesting player is the French-American Jordan Siebatcheu, also playing in the Young Boys. He striked 12 times last season when he was on loan from Rennes. Young Boys has now bought him and it will be interesting to see if he can improve further after playing for the team for one season.

So who will win the top scorer title in the Swiss Super League 2021/2022?

Normally, it would have been impossible to tip anyone other than Jean-Pierre Nsame as the leagues top scorer. However, he is currently injured and will be gone for a few months and therefore the tip has to go to Arthur Cabral. If Nsame can come back faster than expected, and he finds his form quickly, you can not rule him out.

Given that Jordan Siebatcheu will now shoulder the role as first striker when Nsame is gone, he may well challenge Arthur Cabral. After all, he plays in a team that is the best one in the league and they score many goals, and maybe it is Siebatcheu who will be the one scoring most of them.

Of course it can be mentioned that Arthur Cabral can leave for a bigger club as well. He is a stable goal scorer in an attractive age, and it has already been rumored that Bologna might be interested in buying him.
Johan Sundin is a Swedish writer who was a promising soccer player but had to stop his career before it took off due to injuries. Nowadays he writes about everything possible in football and he has an extra passion for deadly strikers, players who have no exceptional technique but are always right and are merciless when the chance arises. Favorites over the years are strikers like Jürgen Klinsmann, Gabriel Batistuta, Ronaldo (the fat one) and Didier Drogba.
