The 2021/2022 season ended this weekend in some of the biggest European leagues

The passed weekend some of Europe's biggest leagues ended their seasons, including the German Bundesliga. Here we go through the champions and the top scorer winners in these countries. And of course, we want to say congratulations to all the champions and the players that won the top scorer title, as well as their fans of course!

Top scorer winner Bundesliga, Germany 2021/2022

The German first tier league Bundesliga played its last round on Saturday the passed weekend. Following German tradition, the league was already decided long before the last round with Bayern Munich as champions, their 10th straight championship title! Borussia Dortmund finished in second place and the other two teams that qualified for next season's Champions League were Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig, so no surprises among the other top teams either.

When it comes to the top scorer fight there was only one question necessary to ask before the season began: could Erling Braut Haaland seriously threaten Robert Lewandowski for the title this season? The answer was a resounding no and this was largely since Haaland had a rather injury-filled season, but it is doubtful if he would have been able to threaten Lewandowski in any case. Lewandowski put 35 balls into the net in this seasons Bundesliga, thus becoming the leagues top scorer for the 5th year in a row. Haaland had to settle for a 3rd place with his 22 goals, and instead it was the Czech Patrik Schick in Bayer Leverkusen who managed to grab the second place with 24 goals scored.

Christopher Nkunku
Another big exclamation point this season has been the Frenchman Christopher Nkunku in RB Leipzig. Nkunku is not a straight-out forward, more of an offensive midfielder, but he still managed to score 20 goals in the league and 11 goals in the Champions League and Europa League, which is pretty impressive for a midfielder. There are many rumours about clubs that are interested in buying him for next season, so it remains to be seen if he still is in the RB Leipzig's shirt next season as well.

Top scorer winner Eredivisie, Holland 2021/2022

Ajax secured the league title in the Dutch Eredivisie in the penultimate round and thus managed to pinch their third straight league title (the 2019/2020 season was cancelled due to Corona). PSV Eindhoven finished in second place and Feyenoord in third, so you might say that all the Dutch big classic teams performed decently well this season.

Sébastien Haller
In the top scorer competition, Ajax French-born Ivorian Sébastien Haller was steaming hot the first half of the season. He scored goal after goal both in the league and in the Champions League, which gave him a big gap down to his closest contender for the top scorer title. His goal production came to kind of a standstill in the last few months though, but the lead was so great that he still held off and won his first top scorer title in his career, staying on 22 goals scored. Vitesse's Belgian Loïs Openda was instead scoring like a machine at the end of the season, with for example two goals against Ajax in the final round, and in the end rose to a second place with 19 goals in total.

Top scorer winner Primeira Liga, Portugal 2021/2022

The Portuguese Primeira Liga is, as usual, a race between three clubs: Porto, Benfica and Sporting. The question before each season is always about which of these three clubs takes home the title and this season it was Porto who were the lucky ones. They won the league this season with a reassuring margin of six points down to Sporting, and another 11 points behind we find Benfica who actually had a rather mediocre season.

Benfica did not perform as well as a team but instead got a player who salvaged the title as top scorer. Before the start of the season, the preliminary tips for becoming the top scorer were very much about the Uruguayan Darwin Núñez in Benfica and the Colombian Luis Diaz in Porto. In January Darwin Núñez was also in the lead with Luis Diaz close behind Liverpool suddenly stepped in and signed Diaz for an immediate transfer. This allowed Núñez to easily claim the top scorer title and he stopped on 26 scored goals, six goals ahead of the Iranian Mehdi Taremi in Porto.

Darwin Núñez
Darwin Núñez also scored 6 goals in the Champions League this season. Considering this guy is only 22 years old it is not a question of whether he will be sold this summer, but rather of which big club in which league will buy him. Manchester United is one of the strongest conentenders for doing so right now.

Top scorer winner Scotting Premiership, Scotland 2021/2022

The Scottish top tier league Scottish Premiership used to be all about Celtic after Rangers were forcibly relegated a while back. A few years ago, Rangers went up in the top league again and in the 2020/2021 season, they were able to break a nine-season championship suite for Celtic and thus restore the tension in the league to some extent again. Finally, there were at least two teams vying for the title again. However, Rangers suite was to be only a season long since Celtic could regain the title quite comfortably again this season, even if the points difference was only four points in the end.

In the top scorer title fight, it has been all the tougher and more interesting though. Both Celtic and Rangers' top players have performed well during periods and worse in other periods and thus there have not really been any players who have regular scored goals through the season. The Greek Giorgos Giakoumakis was brilliant in VVV-Venlo in Holland the season before and won the top scorer title in the Eredivisie without breaking a sweat with 26 goals scored. Because of this he was rewarded with a transfer to Celtic this season. However, it took almost an entire season before Giakoumakis established himself in his new club, but once he did, the goals began to come again. In the last three rounds of the league, he scored four goals, in the end bringing him up to 14 goals in total and that was actually enough to win the Golden Boot title this season. However, he shard the title with the big surprise player Regan Charles-Cook in Ross County. Charles-Cook is an English midfielder who represents Grenada at national team level, and he also managed to score 14 goals this season from his midfield position, possibly making him the actual worthy winner of the title considering the small club he is playing in as well as being a midfielder.
